Civil Inspector

Kumi Construction Management Corp. is seeking highly motivated Construction Inspectors to work in Baltimore City, Maryland and Washington, DC. We have current openings for construction inspectors with experience in the following disciplines; roads, bridges and culverts, paving, drainage and storm water facilities, water and sewer, utilities, and building construction.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational requirements - High School Diploma or State Equivalency Certificate.

Years of Experience - Minimum of three years of specific field construction inspection experience (preferred) in the specified areas listed below.

Inspection skills - Applicants must have demonstrated inspection experience in one or more of the following categories:  1) Building construction (New & Renovations) including maintenance facilities, garages and office/administrative buildings  2) Roadway & bridge construction including related storm drainage/SWM facilities; 3) Water-wastewater treatment plants including pumping stations; 4) Water and sewer pipeline construction including pipeline rehabilitation and in situ repair technologies and; 5) Underground utility construction including installation of electrical conduits, electrical ductbanks, manholes and fiber optic cables; and related new construction or rehabilitation projects requiring monitoring a contractor’s work for conformance to the design plans, specifications and general permit requirements; experience tracking daily quantities, completing daily inspection reports, reviewing payment requisitions and maintaining field sketchbooks and as-built drawings.

Additional Training or Certifications - Sediment & erosion control certifications (i.e. MDE Green/ SHA Yellow Card) required. OSHA 10, MARTCP, NICET, WACEL, NASSCO or VDOT certifications desirable including (Concrete, Asphalt, Soils & Aggregate, Manholes/Pipelines, C-900., etc.), Temporary Traffic Control and Basic First Aid certifications also required for any assigned contracts involving monitoring Contractor MOT or Lane Closures. Confined Space Certification required for all manhole/pipeline inspection assignments. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and personal vehicle for travel to and from assigned construction sites. Other skill-sets required include:  good communication skills; the ability to read/interpret plans and specifications; writing and drawing skills necessary to complete inspection reports and sketch books.   In addition, basic computer skills (Word & Excel) are required for completing electronic inspection reports and familiarity with construction management software (e.g. Primavera Construction Management or CPM Scheduling software, Sharepoint, CM-14, MCMS).

Construction Inspector duties:

·         Inspect the work of contractors on rail, highway, street, bridge, conduits, water and waste water systems facilities or other minor construction projects to ensure compliance with specifications, standards and codes.

·         Maintain a daily inspection log.

·         Perform field tests on materials used such as slump test, air content test and dye test, and record results; takes samples of construction materials used and forward samples to laboratory.

·         Identify damaged conduits, document nature of problem and facilitates locating intact conduits.

·         May inspect excavation and fill operations, placement of forms for concrete, concrete mixing and pouring and asphalt paving.

·         Draws, reads and interprets diagrams and sketches of inspection sites including the location of utilities and obstructions.

·         Performs related work as required.
